Well, nothing does last forever, right? Yet some things certainly do return to how they previously were. In some cases, they get restored.

Before some things do get restored, however, there may be campaigns or fundraisers to make it occur. And if you want to know one that I now is going on in my community right now, this is what it is: one for a couple of tennis courts right on the edge of the field of my former elementary school.

In fact, here is a photograph of a sign on the abandoned tennis courts’ metal fence from one of my recent walks:

(See how there are now quite a few cracks with plants on the courts?)

It turns out (as you can see on the sign in my photograph) that this project has been started by Reese Brantmeier. Believe or not, my mom is actually a friend of Reese’s mother! (They used to both work at my former elementary school.)

That is Reese herself, currently playing proudly for NC’s Tar Heels!

I do remember when those courts used to still be used when I attended there, and while I never did play on them, I did go on them a couple times or so. But then, of course, people just happened to stop using it for some reason, and then…you get the idea?

I have also read now on the project’s website that Reese has been saddened to see the courts locked up full-time, due to how hazardous their conditions now are. She also wants people here to get more experienced with the sport; she says on the project’s website, “Tennis programming in our community would not only teach the fundamentals of a lifelong sport but also instill confidence in the next generation, creating a cycle of service and leadership in Whitewater.”

To be honest with you, I would prefer it if that court is being used without any cracks with plants as well. Reese also says, in a paragraph, “It may be the dream of a student now to earn athletic scholarships to pursue higher education. Perhaps they dream of pursuing a professional athletic career. Or, a student may want to just have fun playing with their friends and families. No matter the “why”, they deserve every opportunity to explore all that the sport has to offer in a safe, inviting environment.” All of that does sound agreeable for quite a few people here if you ask me.

By the way, as you can also see on the sign in the first photograph above, you are able to donate on the website. I can tell after peeking at that website myself, however, that there still is a long way to go before just enough dollars have simply been donated for this restoration to take place.

So, if anyone who is reading this post now is able to, please do donate at that website. It would indeed help Reese out by at least a fair bit. I even have a link for it just below:

I just do believe that the project will be successful here, and that it WILL have inspired at least one or a few tennis players within in future. Yeah, I’m telling you, seeing these tennis courts by my former elementary school all restored and being used again will be something in my opinion.

Yet in the meantime, as always…
